In sports, you don’t win by focusing on the scoreboard. You win by focusing on what you need to do in the game right now.
While you need to have a plan for how you’re going to end the match with more points than your competitor, the only thing that matters is the current step.
Focus on the catch you need to make now. And then focus on the next one.
The same goes for business.
Set your goal (X profit, Y number of customers, Z market share) and build a plan to get there. Keep it in the back of your mind. But focus on what you need to do now.
