At its core, entrepreneurship is a tradeoff between risk and return. You risk financial certainty and an average career to pursue a business opportunity that may or may not bring you freedom in the future.

It will be stressful. It will be scary. Hopefully, it will be worth it.

Of course, you could take those risks and hopefully reap the rewards alone, but why would you want to?

Having someone else in your corner helps you share some of the risks. They also share physical and mental workloads.

In the office, as a rule of thumb, a startup should have two or three founders. One to handle operations. One to control (and always watch) the finances. One to manage investors, other shareholders and ‘the story’.

At home, it helps to have a spouse or partner who understands what you’re doing and how you feel about doing it. Day to day, they will be your sounding board and a second mind. They will keep you grounded when times are good. They will be your emotional pillar when times are tough. And you will be theirs.

Share the journey. Don’t take risks alone.
