Struggling to close a deal? Clients owe you money and your runway is rapidly coming to an end? Second guessing your decision to quit your job to become an entrepreneur, whatever that means?

Your confidence low? Your passion non-existent? Are you stressed and just want to stay in bed?

Nows the time to consciously chase and celebrate the quick wins.

Look at your to-do list and go after the easiest item. Cross it off and high five someone around you. Then go after the now-easiest item and do the same.

Chase. Cross. High five.

Chase. Cross. High five.

Chase. Cross. High five.

No one around you? You can’t high five yourself. Go to a coffee shop with free wifi or move into a shared office and start chasing, crossing and high-fiving.

High five a stranger if you have to. It has the same effect.

Chase. Cross.

The man who moves a mountain begins by carrying away small stones” — Confucius

The act of going after the quick wins helps you get moving. It helps you build momentum.

If you start by moving a few stones you’ll get to rocks. Once you’ve moved a few rocks you’ll have moved the mountain.

High five

The celebration is as important as finishing the task. Not only does it show you that you’re not alone, it is also a reward.

Humans are suckers for rewards. It motivates us and it teaches us. It doesn’t take our minds long to realize do work = celebration (high five) and don’t do work = no celebration (no high five). The high five reinforces the action of working.

Next time you’re in a slump and things aren’t going right remember to chase, cross and high five.
