Don’t expect to find diamonds without searching for them

The discovery of the Eureka Diamond was blind luck

Erasmus Jacobs, 15 years old in 1867, spent some of his free time playing with stones on his family farm in the Northern Cape.

One day, he found and kept an unusually shiny one that caught the attention of a neighbour.

This remarkable shiny stone would later be described as “the rock upon which the future success of South Africa will be built”.

The discovery of the Eureka Diamond – which kicked of SA’s diamond rush – was blind luck.

It was extraordinary.

Don’t expect to find diamonds, let alone shape a country as a result, without searching for them.

The same applies to entrepreneurship.

It’ll be a fluke to find startup ideas, opportunities, business partners and capital unless you are actively looking.

Go search for diamonds.
